Benefits of Using Tower Cranes over a crawler crane in Plant Construction and Operations
The Efficiency & operations of tower crane is higher by 175% to 250% compared to crawler cranes, this is the reason all existing industrial sites are removing the crawler crane and installing the tower cranes for their work.
Three-Way Movement:
The Tower cranes does the fastest 3 way simultaneous movement of Hoisting, Slewing and Trolleying,
Whereas In a crawler crane sequentially and single movement happens because of load alignment & placement has to be done. This is extensively more time consuming and much slower.
Radius and Range:
Once erected, a tower crane can lift and move materials within a 70-meter radius from its center (covering a total span of 140 meters without any obstacles. On the other hand, a crawler crane operates within a smaller radius and needs to be repositioned more frequently. Moving a crawler crane requires extensive ground preparation (Soil stabilization, Boom ups and down) which can take several days.
Operator’s Bird-Eye View:
The position of tower crane cabin provides operators with a bird’s-eye view of the construction site which makes the load pickup and placement very simple & much faster
whereas crawler crane operators sit on the ground and have a lower vantage point closer to ground level and not able to see the site properly hence for each pickup & load placement they need continuous guidance from Singal man which makes the tower crane efficiency very low.
Speed and Productivity:
The tower crane drastically reduces the overall project duration by making lifting, placement and shifting of materials easier. Whereas, the crawler crane requires time for assembly, movement, lifting, and shifting, which can lead to project delays.
Space Efficiency:
Tower crane occupies a small area at ground level (for foundation) whereas crawler crane occupies large area making the entire lifting process more complex and in Rainy days it becomes difficult for crawler cranes to move from one place to another place.
Electrically Operated:
Tower cranes operate on electricity, which is economically and environmentally beneficial.
Whereas, crawler cranes are engine-driven and require high-speed diesel (HSD) for operations.
